I have a brand new Gucci handbags and want to clean it before use. What is the best way to go about doing this without damaging the bags. The leather portfolio is not brilliant, but more on the dull side, and is soft to the touch. That said, I do not know what type of leather is. The handbags also has polyurethane foam construction. Could work cloth + hot water and soap. After looking around, I learned – A new handbag does not need cleaning, but it is crucial to use a shield that will protect against dirt and stains from things such as clothing, etc. This will also make it easier to keep clean and prolong the life of the skin. Softer leathers are aniline style often absorb moisture which means if not protected will absorb spills and stains easily and it will be very difficult to treat if not protected. Please do not put it in the washing machine as this could destroy the bag. Cleaners should be water-based and not get waxes, oils or silicones that can damage the skin.
